Advent Devotional Project

The cross behind the alter at St. Jacobs.

Help create our Advent devotional for 2021!

St. Jacob’s will be writing our own devotional around the theme Dwell.  I’m inviting folks from the congregation to write a day’s reading on the theme of home and what it means to them and how we find God living and dwelling among us.  The theme for the year is coming from this Celtic prayer found at:

https://www.faithandworship.com/Advent/Advent_Celtic_Christian_Celebration.htm#gsc.tab=0

God of hope, who brought love into this world,

be the love that dwells between us.

God of hope, who brought peace into this world,

be the peace that dwells between us.

God of hope, who brought joy into this world,

be the joy that dwells between us.

God of hope, the rock we stand upon,

be the centre, the focus of our lives

always, and particularly this Advent time.

Please write no more than a couple of paragraphs. You can also write a poem or prayer if that’s how the Spirit moves you.  Chose a Bible verse to go with it, or I can help you select one.

You can also chose a favorite verse that fits the theme first and then think and pray and then write on that verse or verses.  Click here for an example of an advent devotional written by a congregation so you can see the diversity of submissions. Click here for some Bible verses that go along with themes for the year, though please also feel free to chose your own. Printed copies of these and prior Advent Devotionals written in past years by St. Jacob's members are available in the office.

It seems strange to be thinking about advent now, but please turn in your devotion by October 31st so we have time to compile them for the season. If you are interested, but would like a little help, I would be glad to meet with you and talk through it!  -Pastor Angel
