Council Update
At the June 15th meeting of the Congregational Council, the following information was reported or actions taken: Heard from the Property Committee that an unexpected repair/replacement for the freezer had to be obtained at the cost of $990. The Council communicated to the Property Committee that the sealing and restriping of the parking lot looked wonderful and encouraged them to be pro-active in looking at capital repairs and potentially costly replacements. Heard from the Worship Committee that since the SonShine picnic will not be held this year, that they will be working with the Social Ministry committee and the St. Jacob’s “fisherfolks” on a “Follow me, and I will make you fish for people” Sunday on September 26. The “fish” theme will be at both services and the fish-fry will be held after the second service. Anyone wishing to help plan the event should contact Diana Pickard and anyone wishing to help obtain the fish should contact Dick Weisel. Pastor Schafer attended the Stark County Thrivent Chapter breakfast and educational event about Thrivent’s new Choice program. It will be important that St. Jacob’s knows who has a Thrivent account. Events that serve the community have the potential to be funded, but must be submitted in advance. The old matching funds program that is being replaced by the Choice program appears to be significantly more complex. The Council voted that any “inside the congregation ‘Choice’ dollars” would go towards the youth’s National Gathering/Mission Trip fund. The next meeting of the Council will be Tuesday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m.
